Certification Process
Click on any of the "Steps" below for detailed information.
- Is your business eligible for EnviroStars certification?
To be eligible, you must operate a business in a category that typically generates hazardous waste, be located in a participating county, and agree to participate in a periodic renewal process.
- Complete an EnviroStars application worksheet.
The application worksheet helps you to identify what you are already doing, and what you could start doing, to incorporate better practices.
- Schedule a free, on-site consultation.
EnviroStars consultants provide a fresh look at your facility and operations, and will help you assess what improvements can be made; they provide assistance, resources, and verify if you meet certification standards.
- Complete tasks agreed to in the visit, to ensure you meet all qualification criteria.
Recommendations may be made during your on-site visit which must be completed in order to show you meet all required elements of certification; let your consultant know when they are done.
Once we verify that you meet the qualification criteria, we use the on-site consultation visit and your application worksheet to determine a star rating. Within a few short weeks, you will receive a new member packet in the mail and start reaping the rewards of EnviroStars certification! Including access to the members only Promote Your Business tool kit.
Certification and Ratings
Businesses certified by EnviroStars are given a 2- to 5-Star rating based on their demonstrated commitment to reducing hazardous materials and wastes, and implementing environmentally beneficial practices. The higher the star rating, the more proactive and comprehensive the business has been, and the more recognition you will receive.
