I put the EnviroStars logo on my truck, a couple of new clients saw it and went to the EnviroStars website to get my phone number. I recommend this to everyone! They ask me about EnviroStars too. We owe it to the county for the privilege of all the resources you make available to us.

We greatly reduced our use of solvents and installed a detergent parts washer. Our hands would be in it several times a day. The county provided a $500 grant toward the purchase of the $9,000 machine, but it has more than paid for itself. I don't have to spend $2,300 a year to have the solvents hauled out as hazardous waste, and I don't have to pay someone to stand there and scrub the parts.

We reuse or recycle plastic bags from customers; reuse all hangers; only use enough spot remover as required. I'm happy to be an EnviroStar, customers ask about it and people who live or work in area ask about it too.

By installing water-saving devices in its photo processors, Ivey Seright has reduced water use by approximately 3,000 gallons a day. In doing so, water and sewer expenses have been reduced by 17%.
Other improvements have also saved Ivey Seright both money and waste. At one point, a photo-processing chemical was on back order and the staff was forced to operate without it. As a result, the chemistry in the processor became more active, requiring staff to reduce the replenishment rate of raw chemicals. Careful testing, and consultation with the chemical manufacturer, revealed a flaw in the blanket chemical formula used for the processor. The discovery allowed Ivey Seright to reduce raw chemical costs by 37%, saving $10,000 per year.
On a daily basis, Ivey Seright recovers silver from fixer used in its development process -- and accepts fixer waste for silver recovery from customers and small businesses. These changes have allowed the business to remain a "small quantity generator" of hazardous waste.
- John Valiton, Ivey Seright/Imaging

Moores Body Shop cut the cost of new thinner by 93 percent. The difference was a solvent recycling still which lowers the amount of raw materials needed as well as disposal costs of used solvent. The still, which cost $4,500, paid for itself in less than one year. As a result, hazardous waste disposal quantities dropped by more than 4,000 pounds, or 89 percent. Using the still, Moores reduced its waste generator status from large quantity generator to small.

You have been great to work with, educating us about our hazardous waste and having patience as we move through our changes of operations with the EnviroStars. There is now a bit of a competition between some areas to get to 4 and 5 star and improve on what they can do to be really green.
