Healthy lawns and landscapes grow on healthy soil. Overuse of chemicals can kill earthworms and other organisms that keep soil and plants healthy.

Rain washes bug and weed killers from our lawns into local streams and lakes. A recent study found five commonly used pesticides in King County streams at levels exceeding standards to protect aquatic life.

Kids and pets come in contact with toxic pesticides if you use those chemicals in your lawn and garden. University of Washington researchers tested the urine of 110 toddlers and found common garden pesticides in all but one.
